If you’re a new writer, you’ve probably come across tons of articles and advice on niching down.

People say — Pick a niche. Stick to it! And watch the magic happen.

But what if you can’t decide what to niche down on?

What if you have several interests?

What if you’re confused and indecisive?

How can you find your niche without writing first?

If you’re new to writing on Medium and have come across this advice, don’t put a lot of pressure on yourself to pick a niche.

I think it’s absurd to be trying to find a niche before you start writing.

Overthinking your niche can lead to writing paralysis, where you spend all your time thinking about your niche, but never actually writing.

My advice:

If you have an idea of what you want to be writing about, good for you!

Start writing.

If you don’t know what to write about. Start writing. It’ll come.

With time, you’ll find out which kind of articles you enjoy writing.
