Why I stopped posting pictures of myself on Instagram
Am I alone?

Hi there, I am Afrakuma.
You can also call me Ju, or Judith. And I have a confession to make — I have a love-hate relationship with Instagram!
Sometimes, after spending hours on the platform, I’m left feeling depleted, and insecure about myself.
I can’t decide if I really need to be there, or not… but hey, they say it’s good for business, or whatever! And we need “to put ourselves out there” …so I keep finding myself there.
For the last couple of years, I have avoided regularly posting images of myself because almost everything, and everybody, seems so perfect there, while I feel so far from it.
To me, it feels like Instagram has evolved into a platform reserved for mostly perfection-worthy moments, which to be honest, I haven’t had many of, at least in the last couple of years.
In most of the images I’m bombarded with on Instagram, everything, and everyone seems so perfect.
Hair laid.
Edges on sleek.
Face beat.
Fits, lit.
Bodies snatched.
Life, Amazing!
Businesses, Booming!
Social lives, flourishing.
While I rock my house uniforms, which consist of - six t-shirts, one dress, and three sweat pants, in rotation and in isolation. Juggling many roles because I chose an entrepreneurial path for myself.
To be honest, I also got tired of the Instagram politics of, ‘like for like’, and ‘comment for comment’.
Sometimes, it all feels a little disingenuous and fake!
Whenever I put an image of myself up, I can’t help but think:
Do people really like my selfies that much? Or are they just liking it, so that I can like theirs?
Do people really love my selfies that much, they feel the need to comment?
Or are they just commenting, so that I can comment on theirs?
I don’t know! But there’s just something so fake and exhausting about the Instagram world.
I’m sick of it! But I’m still there.
